CFCJ PRESENTS

A series of free, virtual performances by the Wild Prairie Winds

The Community Foundation of Johnson County graciously awarded the Wild Prairie Winds a grant to fund a professional recording session that resulted in a series of videos that will be released online between July 19-August 1 2021.

These videos include works by marginalized composers - such as Elsa Barraine, Alexandra Molnar-Suhajda, and Charles Philip Torres Daniels - and works that are inspired by nature.

The Wild Prairie Winds perform Elsa Barraine's Ouvrage de Dame for Wind Quintet. Recorded live at the Coralville Center of Performing Arts. Composed in 1937, this work is programmatic in nature with each movement evoking a personality or character. I. Angelique (semplice) II. Berthe (Allegro) III. Irene (Sinuous) IV. Barbe (Fugato Burlesque) V. Sarah (Vivaccisimo) VI. Isabeau VII. Leocadie (Sentimental, old maid of olden times) VIII. Finale (Allegro) There is a wide variance of character between these "dames" that we hope you can hear. Elsa Barraine was a French composer and awarded the Grand Prix de Rome in 1929 among many other accomplishments.
