EMILY LAUTERS

Flute

Emily Lauters is a senior at Southeast Polk High School, where she plays both flute and piccolo in the Wind Ensemble. Throughout her time at Southeast Polk, she has competed in various competitions in the area; winning “Best of Center” in the 2021 SEP Solo Contest, second place in the Ottumwa Symphony Young Artist Competition, and second place in the Eastern Iowa Flute Solo Contest, among others. Additionally, she has been a member of the Des Moines Youth Symphony since 2019, and has been accepted into the  Iowa All State Band. Emily currently studies with Dr. Kimberly Helton. After high school, her plans include studying flute performance under Immanuel Davis at the University of Minnesota.

TEAGAN BOECKMANN

Oboe

Teagan Boeckmann is a junior at Ankeny Centennial High School. She started out on flute but switched to the oboe in the sixth grade. She has been playing oboe for six years now. In these years, she has played in the district honor band and has received superior ratings at her local solo festival. She also enjoys playing in her jazz, pep, and show bands. During the marching season she participates in color guard. Her favorite large group piece is Steampunk Suite Mvt. 3 by Erika Svanoe while her favorite solo is Solo Pour Hautbois by Paladilihe. When she isn't playing her oboe she likes to participate in show choir, read, and star gaze with friends.

SKYE (XIYUE) YU

Clarinet

Skye (Xiyue) Yu is currently a sophomore at Grand View Christian Academy. She has been studying clarinet for 8 years. She was first chair in the Honors Goldfan Elementary School Wind Ensemble and the bass clarinetist in the Honors Goldfan Middle School Band. Also, she has performed many concerts with her band and has performed at Lincoln Center in New York City. Currently, she is the principal clarinetist in the Grand View Christian Academy Band, and she has participated in Iowa All-State for two years. She was also the first clarinetist in the Iowa honor band

GUS ARTHUR

Bassoon

Gus Arthur is a junior at Johnston High School and plays bassoon with the Johnston High School Wind Symphony.  He started playing bassoon in sixth grade with the help of Summit Middle School band teacher Mary Dunn-Hayward and has studied privately with Sue Odem for the past four years.  Gus has performed solo selections in his school’s solo festival each year and was selected for the Iowa All State band in 2019.  A multi-instrument musician, Gus studies viola with Sherida Josephson and plays with the Des Moines Youth Symphony. He also plays tenor saxophone in his school’s marching and jazz band programs.  He plans to continue pursuing instrumental music and to study music composition in college.

JAYDA ARCHER

Horn

Jayda Archer is a sophomore at Ankeny High School. She is an active participant in the tenth grade concert band, Ankeny Marching Hawks, and the YTBN jazz band. In 2020, Jayda was selected as first alternate for the All-State Band. Jayda has been accepted into multiple honor bands, including SCIBA honor band, the Simpson College honor band, and the Iowa State University honor band. She has participated in solo festivals throughout her playing career, including the 2020 Perry Band Olympics, where she received a division one rating and fourth place recognition. Jayda loves making music with her peers and hopes to continue her passion by majoring in music education in college.
