
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shawn Seguin is a recent graduate of the University of Iowa. He completed his doctoral studies under the tutelage of Benjamin Coelho and was a recipient of the School of Music’s prestigious and highly competitive award: the Iowa Performance Fellowship. While attending the University of Iowa, Mr. Seguin served as the Teaching Assistant for the bassoon studio and won the University’s Concerto Competition. His teachers include Benjamin Coelho, Jeffrey Lyman, and Carl Rath.
As an educator, Dr. Seguin is passionate about making educational material easily accessible to all. He is currently working on a series of exercises for popular solos and excerpts and adapting works for other instruments for solo bassoon, which will be available for free on his website. Currently, Dr. Seguin is teaching privately in Eastern Iowa.
An active orchestral musician, Dr. Seguin performs with orchestras nationwide, including the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale (Midland, TX), Des Moines Symphony, The Dallas Winds, Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, and WCF Symphony. As a soloist, Dr. Seguin regularly performs solo and chamber recitals at the International Double Reed Society’s annual conferences and is frequently invited to present masterclasses and clinics across the nation.
