Dr. Shawn Seguin has an active career as an educator, soloist, and chamber and orchestral musician. He frequently performs and teaches across the United States and abroad. As an educator, Dr. Seguin is passionate about creating a fun, inclusive learning environment that encourages his students to think creatively and foster ingenuity.

Currently, Dr. Seguin is the Visiting Assistant Professor of Bassoon and Musicology at the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University. Before this appointment, he served on the faculty at Western Illinois University, St. Ambrose University, and Eastern Iowa College. Dr. Seguin frequently presents masterclasses and lectures on diverse topics ranging from contemporary reed-making techniques to electroacoustic music. Additionally, he has toured the Midwest with his wind quintet, the Wild Prairie Winds, where they focus on developing and cultivating musical programs and concerts for aspiring performers in underserved areas.

Dr. Seguin is an in-demand orchestral musician, soloist, and chamber musician. He frequently performs with orchestras across the United States, including the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Des Moines Symphony, The Dallas Winds, West Texas Symphony, and others. He has served as the bassoonist for numerous chamber ensembles and is currently the bassoonist for the Bluestem Blaze. As a soloist, Dr. Seguin has performed at various conferences, including the International Double Reed Society’s annual conferences and the Midwest Clinic. He can be heard on the recently released CD As the Fireflies Watched featuring new works by Jim Stephenson.

Dr. Seguin is an active arranger, and many of his arrangements are available through TrevCo Music and KOR Publishing. His arranged bassoon ensembles are performed in his studio, which include compositions from Mozart to Taylor Swift. His recent critical edition of Jean Coulthard’s Lyric Sonatina for Bassoon and Piano will soon be available through Mayfair Music Publishing.

Dr. Seguin is a graduate of the University of Iowa (DMA, Iowa Performance Fellowship recipient), the University of Michigan (MM, Hugh and Nan Cooper Scholarship recipient), and the University of Oklahoma. His teachers include Benjamin Coelho, Jeffrey Lyman, and Carl Rath.
